A 10-mile day needs more than a 10-mile claim
A five-mile ride to work is ten miles by the time you get home, before errands, detours or a closed entrance. Plan to do it on the same charge unless you've arranged charging at work. Check permission, when you can reach the outlet and which charger you'll use.
Start with the longest route you'd normally take. Hills, speed, load, cold, wind and tire pressure all affect how far a charge goes. Leave room for those changes; there's no single percentage that will predict every bike or board on every commute.
Use the advertised figure to narrow the list
To narrow the choices, our finder uses 55% of the highest advertised range for an ordinary commute and 40% for demanding conditions. We use those allowances to leave some room in the battery. They aren't measured range results or a promise of how far you'll get.

Passing that filter earns a model a closer look. Read the range-test details next. A test that tells you the rider weight, speed and terrain gives you much more to work with than a large number on its own. You'll still need to try the route to know how the battery handles your day.
Read the range notes before the motor spec
The Segway MAX G3 specifications show roughly 50 miles in Eco and about 25 miles in the fastest mode under the listed test conditions. That's a large difference from changing the riding mode on the same scooter. Compare using the speed you'll want to ride.
Our comparison table keeps test conditions beside the maker claim. Look for the exact battery option too. A family page may advertise the largest pack while the lower-cost model in your cart has a smaller one.
Make the first return trip with time to spare
Once you have the ride, try your route with the bag you'll carry to work. Note distance, weather, starting charge and the charge remaining after each leg. The point is to see whether a normal commute leaves a comfortable reserve, not to run the device flat.
One mild, windless ride says little about winter. If the result is close, shorten the route, arrange permitted charging or choose another ride. On Onewheels and EUCs, low battery also changes the balancing system; heed device warnings rather than treating the last bar as emergency mileage.
Check again when something changes
Check the range again after fitting a new tire, adding a heavier bag or choosing a route with more climbing. A slow leak can change it too. Keep the tire at the pressure specified for your setup. We recommend Armor-Dilloz for small tread punctures in air-filled tires; choose the formula that suits yours. If it keeps losing pressure, find and fix the cause before counting on it for work.
For the first few weeks, keep a note of your trips and the weather on your phone. You'll soon have a useful picture of what the commute takes from your battery, including the days that use more charge than expected.
