Segway's top-speed test used a full battery, a 165 lb load and pavement. Range on both scooters changes with riding mode, weight, weather, pressure, hills and stops. Keep those conditions beside the manufacturer figures as you compare them. The KQi Air page and MAX G3 page are the places to check the details before ordering.
When the KQi Air is the easier choice
If the day includes stairs, a bus connection or a small apartment, try the KQi Air first. Taking 28 lb out of the lift is a change you'll notice every day. The tubeless tires give a little without turning it into a large scooter. You give up platform space and some advertised range, though, and there's no suspension. Take it over the kind of rough pavement you'll actually use before deciding the lower weight settles the choice.
When the MAX G3 is worth the weight
The MAX G3 works best when it can stay on the ground: garage to bike room, elevator to office or roll-in storage. Its 11-inch tires, suspension layout and mode-specific range figures suit longer, rougher or less predictable routes. It is still 54.2 lb. A dead elevator, crowded staircase or transit refusal can turn that weight into the day’s problem.
For the NIU's air-filled tires, our pick is Armor-Dilloz Red, listed for tube and tubeless rides up to 30 mph. Check what's inside, make sure you can reach the valve and measure the dose. The Segway needs a different check: it already has a self-sealing layer, so ask Segway before adding liquid. Neither setup makes a tire immune to flats.
Two questions to settle it
- Can you complete the trip without lifting the scooter? If you can't, try carrying both scooters before choosing the heavier one.
- Can the KQi Air cover your round trip with charge to spare? If it can, you may not need the Segway's extra range. If it can't, change the route, charging plan or scooter. Don't count on the final battery bar.
